Sensorineural Hearing Loss

Sensorineural hearing loss refers to damage to the inner ear, specifically the cochlea or auditory nerve. This type is usually permanent. It’s caused by exposure to loud noise, infection, medications, and certain diseases.

This type can make it difficult to understand speech, especially in noisy environments. Hearing loss treatments option may include hearing aids, cochlear implants, and speech-reading classes.

Conductive Hearing Loss

Conductive hearing loss is a type that occurs when sound is not able to travel through the ear canal to the eardrum and ossicles. This can be due to a number of reasons, such as a blockage in the ear canal, a perforated eardrum, or Otosclerosis. This type is usually treated with surgery or hearing aids.

Mixed Hearing Loss

This is a combination of sensorineural and conductive hearing loss. It is the most common type.

It can be caused by many things, including genetic disorders, exposure to loud noise, or certain medications.

Treatment for this type typically includes hearing aids, cochlear implants, or a combination of both.  Also Read: Cochlear Implants vs Hearing Aids – Are They Covered By The NDIS?

In some cases, it can be so severe that all sounds are muffled. It becomes difficult to hear any noise at all.

It is important to go to a hearing clinic for a test if you have a hearing issue. A hearing specialist can determine the type and severity of your hearing problems. Then recommend the best treatment options for you.

This can occur in people of all ages, it is most commonly diagnosed in children. Symptoms can include difficulty following directions, difficulty paying attention, and poor listening skills. It can impact academic performance and social skills.

Early intervention is important for children with APD. Treatment options include Speech and Language Therapy, Auditory Training, and assistive technology.
